The Everyday Life Of A Dancer

By Marissa Velazquez

The everyday life of a dancer is pretty much the same no matter what style is being used. Despite the hard work that has to be done in order to achieve a certain level of success, many still pursue their dream of dancing professionally. This is due to the fact that the rewards outweigh all of the discipline that one has to endure. Here is a look at a typical day in the life of a ballet dancer.

The right way to start any day when dancing professionally is to attend a warm up class. This usually takes an hour or so and involves doing some basic exercises and stretches. If this is not done, one can end up with an injury which could affect their career. If one is taking part in a show that is taking place, they have to rehearse everyday.

Rehearsals take place after the warm up, since the muscles have been properly prepared. There are various schedules for different parts in the performance and if someone is injured this can change for any number of reasons. So one always has to be aware of what is taking place. The rehearsal can last for over six hours.

This happens all the time in the world of dance. Depending on how serious the injury is, someone else will have to act as replacement for the role required in the upcoming performance. There are two different types of rehearsals that are done. One is the studio rehearsal which is done in a room with a smaller space. Then there is the stage rehearsal which is done on stage.

The stage rehearsals are different from that done in the studio, because the space is larger and has the sets that will be used for the show. The music played is also live which can sound different from what is played using a CD player. So a person will be practicing in a place where the people will see them eventually.

The work of practicing for shows for six days out of the week can take a toll on the body. This why one can always find a physiotherapist in the same location. They help to solve any problems one might have from the mild sprain to something more serious. One also has to take care of themselves in order to make the most of their working experience.

This means eating healthy whole foods and keeping hydrated. Most people stay away from junk food in order to keep their energy up. This enables one to keep up with the demands of their job which requires the use of their body. Sleep is also important, because when one is tired they are more prone to injuries.

These and other factors are a part of the regular life of a dancer. There are many young people who dream of having the life of a dancer without understanding the hard work and the dedication that is involved. When one understands what they have to do be the best, they will then be able to decide if this is a profession that they really want to get into.
