You need to be a very caring person. A patient comes in scared and unaware of what the replications are. It is up to you to make sure that they are calm and relaxed so that their anxiety doesn t result in any further damage. They may not be able to speak to you but they can hear you and your voice and words are the only comforts that will have at the time.

Such placements are challenging and somewhat exciting if this is a passion for you. You can easily learn new tricks to the trade and teach yourself about accomplishing more than what you planned for. It is a wonderful feeling to know that you have completed the day by learning something new and that you have saved someone who needed your help.

Being in this occupation also gives you the chance to meet new people. Whether it is patients, families of patients or just acquaintances, the days are never quiet. The one thing that you would need to get used to is not having a set way of doing things. You may like things planned but, in that setting, changes happen every day and what took place yesterday is not what will happen tomorrow. This will teach you to cope with the current situation and worry about what is happening in the present. This will provide the lesson of being able to adapt to any situation even when you are pushed into the deep end. You will also walk out of that learning something new and be proud of how far you have come.
