Tips For Selecting The Right Scrum Trainer

By Peter Robinson

If you want to start a project, there are so many professionals that you need to work with. These will include accountants, project manager, and the CSM among many other parties of the team. Even though the project manager oversees the project, he/she may not be able to control the team that is working on the project effectively. This is where a CSM comes in. This professional is essential in motivating the team to deliver the desired results within the expected time-line. It is the work of the Scrum Trainer to ensure that the team is equipped with the right knowledge. Use the tips below to find the best CSM.

To begin with, the professional should be a peoples person. He/she should possess excellent communication as well as leadership skills. He should be able to create relationships with people easily. Also, the professional should be trustworthy and a person that you will be comfortable sharing with. Hence, ensure that you find a professional CSM that has the qualities you are looking for.

Secondly, you should ensure that you find a CSM that has in-depth knowledge about software engineering. Gone are the days when software engineers isolated themselves thinking that other people cannot fit in their circle. Thus, find a CSM that can relate well with software programmers and other technical experts without making a fool of himself. Also, these professionals will respect the CSM and do their work diligently.

The CSM should also be a product expert. This means that he/she should have experience in the product you are dealing with so that he can get the right requirements. If the CSM does not have knowledge of the product, he/she may not know the requirements that are needed to complete the job. Therefore, he may misguide the team, and the results will be devastating.

The professional should also be an organizations expert. Organizations have become so complex, and it can be hard to understand them. Things have changed, and things that people thought were best for the organizations are no longer working well. Therefore, the CSM should be aware that organizations are complicated. The CSM should thus be willing to learn how organizations work.

For the CSM to be able to train the team on the ground, he/she should also be open to learning. Innovations come up every day, and the CSM should be eager and keen to know them. He should know everything that will help in training the team effectively and become an example to be emulated.

The professional should also be a great facilitator. He should be able to mobilize discussion and help the team get through tough situations. It is not a must that the CSM knows everything about the company as this may take time. However, if he can bring the team together, he should be your choice.

The professional should also be a good listener and observer. He should be keen to know how the team works daily and find out where things are not done to perfection. Also, he should be ready to listen to the concerns of the team.
